    Harley Crank Balancing Question

I have a question from a reader asking about how to balance a harley-davidson crank. Hopefully someone out there can help him out. Thanks.

    Here's his question:

Is the bobweight card the same as V8? Do you weight match the small end of the rod and the big end, and pistons? Then, do you use 52% recip. and 100% rot.? Then remove or add weight to flywheels? What about the weight of the crank pin bearing?

    Re: Harley Crank Balancing Question

The new gen. motors are balanced very well but some of the old ones ,  WOW  I once put 17 half by half inch deep holes in one.  The only parts you can match weight on are the pistons.  100 % rot. including the brg weight.  Add the weight of the recip and use 53% to 60% depending on the use of the motor. race or  every day rider
